Approaching Juvenile Justice with a Focus on Positive Youth Development

Unlike the traditional juvenile justice system model, the positive youth development (PYD) model focuses on a child's strengths rather than his or her weaknesses. PYD teaches youth to take responsibility for their actions, restore harm done and make better decisions in the future. In this policy platform, the National Juvenile Justice Network offers recommendations on how to implement the PYD model.
