  • NJJN Podcast: NJJN released Episode 3 in its  NJJN Voices from the Field podcast series: 
    In Episode 3, Edin Madrid with NJJN member The Anti-Recidivism Coalition tells the story of his life before incarceration, and what ultimately led him to the path he’s on now, the things he’s learned about the justice system from his mentors both in and outside it, and his passion for the work that needs to be done to give young people a fairer opportunity.

  • Agency Guidance: The Department of Labor’s Education and Workforce Administration division released guidance to local workforce boards, American Job Centers (AJCs), workforce development partners, and federal grantees under its Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) with information on supporting community violence intervention (CVI) strategies. This is the first time DOL has provided this guidance to its workforce component, and was a key commitment in the President’s April 2021 Initial Actions to Curb Gun Violence Fact Sheet. This guidance, combined with other agency guidance and investments, continue to represent the administration’s historic effort to leverage the entire federal government to invest in and support community violence intervention strategies and prevent gun violence.   • Report: The Sentencing Project published a new report, “Youth in Adult Courts, Jails, and Prisons.” The brief reviews the history, harms, pathways and trends that treat children as if they were adults. Read more. 

  • Report: The Fines and Fees Justice Center and the Juvenile Law Center published a new report, “The Impact of Juvenile Fees on Florida’s Children, Families and Future.” From the website: This report outlines the catastrophic consequences of juvenile fee debt for Florida’s children, families, and economy including: increased poverty, increased recidivism, and the exacerbation of racial disparities in the justice system. It also shows how the accumulation of fee debt is particularly damaging for Black youth and youth in the child welfare system.Read more. 

Jobs/Fellowship/Funding Opportunities 

  • Fellowship: The Child Welfare & Child Well-Being Research Group’s Juvenile Justice Collaborative at the Rutgers University School of Social Work seeks a postdoctoral scholar interested in advancing their experience working with justice-involved youth and juvenile justice systems. The postdoctoral scholar will join a juvenile justice cluster of researchers working with state agencies, community partners, and national data to improve juvenile justice practices and policies around trauma informed services, mental health treatment, rehabilitation, and recidivism reduction. The scholar will work directly with faculty, including Drs. Jacquelynn Duron; Abigail Williams-Butler; and Paul Boxer. Learn more.
